Luca Marelli (PhD, 2016) is a Senior Visiting Research Fellow with the Research Ethics, Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Unit at IEO, and holds appointments as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow with the Life Sciences & Society Lab (KU Leuven) and Adjunct Professor of Bioethics at the Department of Medical Biotechnologies and Translational Medicine (University of Milan). His main research activities, at the intersection of Science & Technology Studies (STS), data governance and biomedical research policy, focus on the ethical, legal, and social aspects of contemporary data-intensive biomedicine. In 2013–2014, he was a Visiting Research Fellow in the Program on Science, Technology and Society at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. As a post-doctoral fellow with the STS Unit at IEO (2016-2018), he was in charge of the Regulatory WP of the Italian Epigenomics Flagship Project (EPIGEN) and was also part of the expert group drafting the incidental findings policy for genomic research of the Italian National Research Council. With CNR, he is member of the Scientific Committee of its Research Ethics and Bioethics Committee. As Scientific Secretary of the ACC GDPR Committee, established under the mandate of the Italian Ministry of Health, Luca is also presently involved in devising binding guidelines for the implementation of national and European legislation on data protection for the processing activities of Italian research hospitals (IRCCS).
