Seed4Innovation: 4th Edition kicks off
On Tuesday, March 19 2024, UNIMI Foundation and University of Milan launched the 4th edition of Seed4Innovation, a program created in collaboration with innovation and finance partners, to identify and accelerate innovative projects with a strong potential for industrial development and clinical applications. Also in this edition, IEO, through its IEO-TT team, is one of the Research Partners having the opportunity to candidate projects arisen from its research activities. Deadline to apply: May 15, 2024 at 5pm.

The IEO technology transfer office team has been enriched with a new project management resource, starting in January 2024. Eng Ivano Manfredonia, PhD has joined to support the team led by Dr. Marzia Fumagalli through the PerfeTTO project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Health. Welcome on board!

IEO-TT at Biofit 2023
IEO-TT is just back from two very stimulating days in Marseille where the 12th edition of BioFIT took place. Biofit is the leading partnering event in Europe for exploring academia-industry partnership and early-stage deals on innovations stemming from public research institutions, academic spin-offs and emerging biotech companies. Our TTO team was there meeting with peers and learning about the current trends in the field of life sciences while promoting IEO Istituto Europeo di Oncologia's patents portfolio to find the best partner willing to be engaged in their development.

iRASP funded to enter a new phase of preclinical development
Thanks to a total funding of approximately 900k Euros by Extend, the National Technology Transfer Hub created by CDP Venture Capital - through its Tech Transfer Fund – and with the co-investment of Evotec and Angelini Ventures, the first antibody candidate for T-ALL immunotherapy, developed through the IEO proprietary iRASP platform, is now entering a new phase of preclinical development through a milestones-based path, that if successful would lead to the incorporation of a dedicated Start-up company ensuring the progression of the asset into clinical development.

IEO-TT at the General Assembly of the PerfeTTO project.
IEO-TT attended the General Assembly of PerfeTTO, the Italian network of technology transfer centers in Life Science, held yesterday, Nov. 23rd, at the Centro Cardiologico Monzino in Milan. It was a great opportunity to share the progression of the project, to meet peers and to know the first new TT officers joined the TTOs of the network to potentiate the tech transfer activities.

“iRASP Therapeutics” among the top 5 most viewed patents on Knowledge Share platform
The IEO project “iRASP – PLATFORM FOR THE DISCOVERY OF NEW TUMOR-SPECIFIC THERAPEUTIC ANTIBODIES” has been ranked among the most viewed biomedical patents on the Knowledge Share platform for the month of May 2023. The project arises from the research activities conducted by Paul Massa under the coordinated supervision of Pier Giuseppe Pelicci and Saverio Minucci and aims to the identification of novel antibodies for cancer immunotherapy using a unique target-agnostic approach.

IEO as Research Partner of the 2023 Edition of the Seed4Innovation program
IEO has renovated its participation as Research Partner of the third edition of the Seed4Innovation scouting program by Fondazione UNIMI and Università degli Studi di Milano.
Also this year, the IEO-TT team will give its contribution to the scouting and the proposal of research projects from IEO and will participate to the selection and evaluation phases of the program.

Two IEO projects among the winners of the 2022 edition of the Seed4Innovation program
Two IEO projects, “iRASP” coordinated by Paul Massa under the supervision of Pier Giuseppe Pelicci and Saverio Minucci, and “TELIO,” coordinated by Teresa Manzo and Luigi Nezi were awarded during the final ceremony of "SEED4INNOVATION: where innovation grows", the innovation program organized by Fondazione UNIMI and Università degli Studi di Milano.
From IEO-TT, Dr. Marzia Fumagalli, head of IEO-TT office, and Dr. Ilaria Capozzo, associate at IEO-TT, attended the award ceremony.
Congratulations to the IEO researchers and the IEO-TT team that will continue to work together in the next phase of the program in which, under the guidance of mentors, will define a development plan towards the market.

IEO-TT @ the EU-LIFE Tech Transfer Pitching Event 2022
IEO-TT has continued to work closely with the EU-LIFE Tech Transfer Working Group and also this year has contributed to the organization of the EU-LIFE Tech Transfer Pitching Event 2022 that will be held online on October 11th 2022. The event will give researchers from Institutes of the network the opportunity to present their innovative projects to VCs and professionals with venture creation experience that will provide their insights on the potential of the projects to mature into start-ups.
Dr. Teresa Manzo from IEO will present the pitch for the project “TELIO - Unlocking adoptive cell therapy efficacy by lipid-mediated metabolic reprogramming”

IEO projects selected for the second phase of the 2022 edition of Seed4Innovation program
IEO projects among the 44 projects that have been selected to access the second phase of Seed4Innovation, the scouting program promoted by Fondazione UNIMI and Università degli Studi di Milano created to accelerate the development of highly innovative solutions born from research, favouring their industrial or market application.
For the first time IEO has participated as Research Partner of this second edition of the program and IEO-TT has contributed to the scouting and the proposal of projects from IEO researchers and will continue supporting the projects’ teams in the next phases of the program.

IEO-TT @ the pitching session of the “Evento di brokerage: la ricerca sanitaria incontra l’industria” by APRE
The brokerage event organized by APRE (Agenzia per la Promozione della Ricerca Europea) in collaboration with Farmindustria and Confindustria Medical Devices will take place on 13th-14th of July 2022 at the Ministry of Health in Rome.
The event intends to encourage the development of synergies between research in the health sector and the industrial world representing a great opportunity for institutes carrying out clinical and translational research to interact with companies operating in the pharmaceutical and diagnostics sector.
Dr. Paula Massa will be pitching the project “iRASP Therapeutics” arising from research activities conducted at IEO. Good luck!

Italian Angel for Growth, MSD Italia and MSD Business Development&Licensing visiting IEO
IEO-TT organized a one-day meeting with a delegation of Italian Angels for Growth, the largest group of professional business angels in Italy, MSD Italia, one of the most innovative pharmaceutical companies globally, and MSD Business Development & Licensing unit that visited IEO’s laboratories of the Department of Experimental Oncology.
During the visit Prof. Roberto Orecchia, IEO Scientific Director, Prof. Pier Giuseppe Pelicci, Director of IEO Research, and Prof. Giuseppe Curigliano, Director of Division of Early Drug Development for Innovative Treatment, had the opportunity to showcase the innovative research conducted at IEO aiming at establishing synergies with the company and generating creating more innovation and value for entire health sector.

IEO-TT @ the EU-LIFE Tech Transfer Pitching Event
As part of the EU-LIFE Tech Transfer Working Group, the IEO-TT contributed to the organization of an online pitching event aimed at identifying promising translational projects with the potential for maturing into spin-offs. The event will be held on October 13th and will help the selected pitchers to gain insight in the different aspects required to transform their research projects into new ventures.
Prof. Giuseppe Testa and Dr. Paul Massa will pitch live on virtual stage in front of venture capitalists and professionals with venture creation experience, presenting two promising projects originating from research activities conducted in IEO: “Epigenetic modulators to ameliorate core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder” and “A unique engine to discover and develop novel therapeutic antibodies against tumor-associated targets for intractable tumors” respectively.

IEO-TT @ Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2021 (“Virtual participation”)
From September 29th to October 1st, IEO-TT will be “virtually” present at Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2021, the leading national matchmaking and update event for all those interested in the themes of Life Sciences. The seventh edition of the event focuses on the impact of biomedical technologies throughout life by analyzing new trends and perspectives. In this context, companies, start-ups, researchers, investors and players in the life science sector will have the opportunity to discuss and explore new collaboration and partnership opportunities for the development of products, services, projects, and distribution and licensing agreements.

IEO-TT @ Proof of Concept (PoC) Projects in Life Sciences Webinar 2021
IEO, through IEO-TT, is among the organizers of a workshop dedicated to Proof of Concept (PoC) Projects in Life Sciences that will take place online on September 23rd and 28th 2021. Experts from the industrial world and tech transfer professionals will discuss the importance of PoC initiatives, the specific criticalities of the life science sector and the role of institutions and research centers in the realization of a PoC project.
