Rosalind Gunby is an experienced Science Writer who has supported Prof. Di Fiore’s research group since 2008. She was educated at the University of Oxford, where she gained her Master’s Degree in Biochemistry with Honours in 1995. She was then awarded a Wellcome Trust Prize Studentship to perform her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Manchester, graduating in 1999. Her PhD was focused on defining the mechanisms of apoptosis. Driven by her interest in cancer research and a desire to experience another culture, she continued her training through a Josep Carreras International Postdoc Fellowship at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, and later at the Dept. of Clinical Medicine, University of Milano-Bicocca, until 2007. Her research interests lie in oncogenic kinases, targeted therapy and rational drug design. In 2008, Rosalind decided to combine her interest in cancer research with her writing skills through a science writing position. Her current role includes helping to secure research funding through preparing grant applications, managing grants by monitoring progress and preparing reports, critically reviewing and technical editing of papers, and ad hoc writing responsibilities. She has a particular interest in assisting researchers in the clinical translation of their work and has been involved in writing study proposals for pharmaceutical companies and clinical trial consortiums, patent applications, and clinical protocols.
